From Data to Harvest: Meijer Potato's Award-Winning Innovation

Meijer Potato is a leading global potato breeder, specialising in developing new potato varieties for chips, french fries, and other food products. The company follows multi-year cycles to design, breed, and license varieties that align with current and future market trends. This complex process considers a wide range of factors, including potato genetics, food trends, climate conditions, plant diseases, and competitor varieties

Each year, Meijer introduces around 700,000 potential varieties into their breeding cycle, with only one or two – or sometimes none – surviving the rigorous selection process to become market-ready. To support this work, Meijer conducts advanced genetic analyses, lab trials, and field tests that generate significant amounts of data, which are critical for informed decision-making. Given the complexity and volume of this data, Meijer needed a robust solution to future-proof their data landscape, accelerate the breeding cycle, and enhance the accuracy and efficiency of their operations.

To achieve this, Meijer partnered with Emixa to establish a comprehensive strategy for data quality, security, and governance. This collaboration not only strengthens the resilience of their operations but also strategically positions Meijer to adapt and thrive in the rapidly changing potato industry. With the integration of the Boomi platform, supported by Emixa, Meijer successfully reinvented their data management and integration processes. This innovative approach led Meijer to win the 2023 Boomi EMEA Customer Innovation Award, further underlining its leadership in agricultural innovation.
