Live! VolkerWessels Telecom is prepared for the future with a brand-new ERP system. The company now has more insight into and control over its many installation and management projects and service contracts. Project leaders Maarten van Welsem, Tinyce Wassens, and managing director Adem Karademir explain what was involved in this monster job.
Adopting best practices
Project leader Maarten van Welsem explains: “An ERP system is the administrative backbone of a company. VolkerWessels Telecom's previous system was over 25 years old and desperately needed to be replaced. The company chose a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution, 4PS. Being a standard software application, it implies that users will work best according to the standard industry processes of the system: the best practices. By limiting customisation and exceptions, organisations can benefit greatly from continuous improvements of the system, making them more future-proof.”
Monster job that affects many people
Project leader Tinyce Wassens adds: “Our team ensured VolkerWessels Telecom could oversee all the changes and choices that came working with this new system. What does working according to those best practices entail? How does the system connect with other, often unique, VolkerWessels systems? Replacing such a central system always impacts the daily work of many people: mechanics, work planners, buyers, mechanics, engineers, contractors, and financial specialists. All in all, we have trained a total of 1,500 users of the system. That's what I call a monster job.”
More control over projects
Adem Karademir, the managing director overseeing the project: “This industry has thin margins, so control over costs is essential. With the new system, the company has better insight into and more control over the financial returns of all its projects and service contracts. This allows VolkerWessels to take innovation a step further. Together we are working to plan scarce resources, such as personnel and materials, even more intelligently. We also develop algorithms to improve our ability to predict expected future returns on planned projects. As a result, VolkerWessels Telecom is taking a giant leap forward in its digital transformation.”
In short, the future makers of VolkerWessels Telecom are ready for the future.
